Sergio Martinez Defends Middleweight Title vs. Darren Barker

Boxing betting fans at the Bodog Sportsbook will have what looks like another mismatch to wager on this weekend when WBC Middleweight Diamond Champion Sergio Martinez (47-2-2, 26 KOs) defends his title against undefeated European and Commonwealth Champion Darren Barker (23-0 14 KOs).

Martinez, now 36, will be the heavy favorite to retain his title over his British challenger. Since losing a majority decision to Paul Williams in April 2010 he has racked up three convincing wins, including a rematch KO victory over Williams. He seems to be improving each time we see him and looks to be in his prime going into this bout with Barker.

Barker will be fighting for the first time in America and is expected to be out-classed and overwhelmed by the WBC champ. Despite the impressive record Barker has not fought anyone of note and will be taking a massive step up in competition. Barker will have a height and reach advantage, and should show lots of heart as most Brit fighters do, but whether that will be enough to beat the massive boxing odds that will be against him is another question.

When the Bodog Sportsbook posts the boxing odds on this fight watch for Martinez to be a heavy favorite, while the payout on a Barker upset is expected to be significant.

However, fighters like Buster Douglas and Leon Spinks have shown in the past that upsets happen in boxing betting no matter how the fight might be handicapped. Can the British challenger find a way to upset the champ? If he’s able to, it would make for a huge payday for whoever picks him.

Boxing Betting Odds: Ortiz has real shot at upsetting unbeaten Mayweather

This Saturday night, after a six-month hiatus, boxing betting fans will finally get to see the return of undefeated boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. (41-0) when he returns to the ring in a bid for Victor Ortiz’s (29-2-2) WBC Welterweight title.

The 34-year-old six-time champion will be stepping back into the ring against one of the best young fighters in the world in Ortiz, and the boxing odds board at the Bodog Sportsbook are offering a few good opportunities on Saturday night’s action.

The moneyline on Mayweather has him as a heavy -650 favorite to win his seventh world title. Despite the long layoff all indications point to Junior being as spry and talented as he has ever been, so a line of -650 looks like a bargain compared to the lines one usually has to pay on him against his typical opponents of late.

But the price on Mayweather is low for a reason in this fight, and that reason is Victor Ortiz. The WBC Welterweight champ will be defending his new title for the first time and is on a six-fight win streak. The gritty, talented, and determined Ortiz will pay out at a hefty +450 if he can manage to catch Mayweather and shock the world; it all depends on how much Mayweather has slowed down since we last saw him fight.

The best boxing betting option on the Mayweather vs. Ortiz fight at the Bodog Sportsbook might be the action on the OVER/UNDER total round bets. The line is set at 11.5 rounds, with the UNDER bet paying even-money and the OVER action paying -140. FYI, Mayweather has gone the distance in five of his last six fights, and Ortiz in three of his last four.

Boxing Betting Odds: A legit challenge for Vitali Klitschko?

This Saturday night’s WBC Heavyweight title fight between Vitali Klitschko and Tomasz Adamek continues to offer boxing betting opportunities at the Bodog Sportsbook. The legitimate challenge from Adamek has produced some very affordable boxing odds on a champion that normally carries a hefty price.

Usually coming in as an expensive favorite, the -600 boxing odds on Klitschko to retain his WBC Heavyweight title are a bargain. This fight presents no standout reason to believe that Klitschko won’t dominate his smaller opponent with his long jab and straight right hand the way he has been doing for years, so the only question for boxing fans is whether Father Time has started to catch up to the longtime WBC champ or if he’s still the most dominant Heavyweight in the world.

Despite being the toughest challenger that Klitschko has faced in a long time, the boxing odds on Adamek still have him as a heavy underdog to take the title. The upset line at the Bodog Sportsbook will pay +400 if the resilient former World Light Heavyweight and Cruiserweight champ can find a way past Klitschko’s jab and work his power shots for a victory. The potential for him to surprise is there, and the odds on the upset would be a good payday.

The Bodog Sportsbook is also offering an OVER/UNDER line on the number of rounds the fight will go. The line is set at 10.5 rounds, so if you think the granite chins of these two fighters will cause the fight to go the distance, a bet on the Over will pay +110. But when you consider Adamek’s power and Klitschko’s ability to wear down opponents with stinging punches, the Under 10.5 rounds bet seems to be the more favorable outcome and thus will cost -150.

Boxing Betting Odds and Lines: Jan Zaveck vs. Andre Berto

Welterweight champion Jan Zaveck of Slovenia will step into the ring on Saturday night to make his fourth title defense of the IBF championship belt he’s held since December 2009 against Haitian-American fighter Andre Berto live on HBO at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Bet on the boxing bout with Bodog.

Zaveck, with a sparkling career record of 31-1 with 18 knockouts, earned the welterweight title with a devastating third-round KO of Isaac Hlatshwayo of South Africa and is the only Slovenian boxer in history to hold a world title.

He has successfully defended his crown three times already, with wins against Rodolfo Martinez of Mexico in April 2010 (12th round, TKO), Rafal Jackiewicz of Poland in September 2010 (12-round majority decision) and Paul Delgado of the United States in February 2011 (fifth round, TKO).

Berto, whose career slate is an equally impressive 27-1 with 21 knockouts, is a former WBC welterweight titleholder. He first earned the WBC crown back in June 2008 with a seventh-round TKO victory over Mexican boxer Miguel Angel Rodriguez, and successfully defended the title five times before losing a unanimous decision to American Victor Ortiz in a compelling bout earlier this year in April at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut that saw both fighters suffer two knockdowns.

Fans of the Sweet Science will remember that Berto was scheduled to fight Shane Mosley at Mandalay Bay in January 2010 in a unification bout for the WBC and WBA welterweight titles, but he withdrew two weeks before the bout due to the loss of several family members in the Haiti earthquake. Berto subsequently returned to action with an eighth-round TKO of former WBO welterweight champ Carlos Quintana of Puerto Rico in April 2010, and then floored Freddy Hernandez of Mexico with a first-round TKO in November 2010, before falling to Ortiz earlier this year.

Boxing Betting Odds: Amir Khan vs Zab Judah Junior Welterweight Title

While the globally-recognized sport of mixed martial arts has clearly replaced the once beloved sport of boxing in the hearts and minds of many fight fans, BetUS boxing bettors will be back in paradise when Amir “King” Khan (25-1-1, 17 KO’s) squares off against Zab “Super” Judah (41-6, 28 KO’s) in a junior welterweight title fight this Saturday.

The pair will get it on in a ‘prime time’ title unification bout on July 23, at 10:00 PM ET live on HBO from the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

When: Saturday, July 23
Time: 10:00 PM ET
Where: Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, NV
TV: HBO

BetUS Boxing Sportsbook Odds
Zab Judah +350
Amir Khan -500
Over 7½ -230
Under 7½ +180

While there haven’t been many ‘big name’ fights this year outside of Bernard Hopkins versus Jean Pascal on May 21, Carl Froch against Glen Johnson June 4 and Wladimir Klitschko against David Haye July 2, this big –time title fight between two ‘little’ guys is undoubtedly worthy of the publicity surrounding it.

Making things even better for BetUS boxing bettors that are looking to increase the annual betting bankroll is the fact that I’ve got the scoop on just which boxer will walk away victorious.

With that said and fight night drawing near, let me get down to business.

Zab Judah
Age: 33
Record: 41-6, 28 KO’s
Height: 5’ 7.5”
Reach: 72”

The Scoop: Zab Judah has won five straight fights since suffering a decision loss to Joshua Clottey in August of 2008 and won the IBF light welterweight title in March by beating Kaizer Mabuza in Newark New Jersey.

Judah has a surprisingly long reach despite standing just 5’ 7.5” but is also nine years older than the 24-year-old Khan.

Amir Khan
Age: 24
Record: 25-1-1 17 KO’s
Height: 5’ 10”
Reach: 71”

The Scoop: Amir Khan has won seven consecutive fights since suffering his only career loss back in September of 2008.

The wiry Englishman packs a wallop of a punch, having knocked-out a whopping 17 fighters in his 25 victories, but will have a slight reach advantage in this fight despite having a nearly three-inch height advantage over Judah.

Khan beat Paul McCloskey via decision in April and has been trained by one of the best in the business in the widely-respected Freddie Roach since suffering his only loss almost three years ago.

Prediction: I used to really like Zab Judah when he was in his prime, but that was a long time ago and now, I just can’t see the aging fighter winning this fight over a younger, stronger and faster boxer in Amir Khan.

Even in beating Marcos Maidana in March, Judah had to pick himself up off the floor to get the win. While some may think that shows his courage, I believe it also shows his declining skill level.

Sure, Zab Judah has won five consecutive fights coming into this bout, but the fact of the matter is that none of the five fighters presented much of a challenge for the now, 33-year-old fighter.

The younger Amir Khan has all of the advantages in this fight pointing clearly toward him as he comes into this bout as the faster, stronger … and more determined fighter.

This fight is being hyped up as a top-notch pairing, mostly because of Zab Judah’s ‘name’ but the reality of the matter is that the aging champ is not the fighter he used to be … and one that is not in Amir Khan’s class.

Bet on Amir Khan to get the job done and push Zab Judah another step closer toward retirement. As far as the Over/Under Total is concerned, I like the Over here BetUS boxing bettors.

Zab Judah has been stopped short of the eight rounds just once in his career and is still wily and crafty enough to avoid the big KO from Khan before the eight round in this bout.

Boxing Betting Odds: Amir Khan vs. Zab Judah for Light Welterweight Title

Boxing betting heats up on Saturday as Zab Judah promises to throw everything but the kitchen sink at Amir Khan in a light welterweight unification bout.

He promises that will include punches, but not a ring stool like the one he heaved at a referee years ago in the wake of a controversial loss.

Khan is looking for his fifth straight WBA title defense while adding Judah’s IBF belt to his collection at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Vegas. And the 24-year-old British battler – who is now fighting out of California – is a -450 favorite at  Bodog Sportsbook.

It makes the crafty Judah, enjoying a career renaissance at 33, a big +300 boxing underdog.

Both men have been re-focused and riding win streaks since a bad loss. Judah has won five in a row since losing to Joshua Clottey while Khan has won seven straight, including four straight title defenses against quality opponents such as Paul McCloskey, Rene Marcos Maidana, Paul Malignaggi and Andrei Kotelnyk.

Judah, the southpaw now being trained by Pernell Whitaker, has struggled when facing bigger names — he has losses against Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Angel Cotto and Carlos Baldomir on his resume.

However, he has been solid in recent years and poses a significant challenge to Khan, who has dreams of unifying the entire light welterweight division. To do that, he needs to beat Judah on Saturday, then get WBO and WBC title holder Timothy Bradley to fight him.

The  over/under betting on how many rounds this fight will last has settled at 7.5 rounds (with the over favoured at -180 and the under at +140). That means betting under 7.5 rounds (which Khan himself has predicted in pointing to a victory in five rounds) would pay $140 on a $100 wager.

Amir Khan and Zab Judah to fight in a title unification match

Boxing Betting Online. Although many wanted a match up between Khan and WBO champ Timothy Bradley, Bradley declined the match. Instead, Khan will face Zab Judah, who has great experience and an entertaining fight style. Let’s get into the odds.

Zab Judah (41-6, 17 KOs) at +390 vs. Amir Khan at -480 (25-1, 17 KOs)

At 24, Khan is one of the best young boxers in the world. His only loss was at the hands of Breidis Prescott three years ago, but Khan has left a trail of boxers in his wake after going on a tear. He’s beaten legen Marco Antonio Barrerra, Paulie Malignaggi and Marcos Maidana during this run.

Judah has been in the ring with the best of them, losing to the likes of Miguel Cotto and Floyd Mayweather Jr. despite putting on a valiant effort against the world-ranked opponents. He’s beaten fighters such as Cory Spinks and Mickey Ward, which are impressive feats.

Over 9.5 rounds at -110; Under 9.5 rounds at -120

While Khan has good power, Judah is not a finisher and is even harder to stop before the final bell. Khan needs to catch the quick American to be able to score a KO — much easier said than done. Judah has been one of the better counterpunchers for a while now, and he’s got awesome technique to boot.

Although this isn’t the matchup most fans wanted to see, both should be commended for taking a fight that actually matters instead of the usual BS against tin cans. Khan has long felt that he’s one of the best in the world, and this fight could go a long way in showing he belongs.

Boxing Betting Odds: Danny Green vs. Antonio Tarver for IBO Title

There are plenty of similarities in comparing the careers of Aussie Danny Green and Florida’s Antonio Tarver, who fight Wednesday in Green’s homeland.

Both men have wins over Roy Jones Jr. on their resumes. Both men (Green at 39 and Tarver at 42) have seen better days. Both men have jumped between cruiserweight and light heavyweight in recent years.

But while Green comes in riding a 10-fight win streak and earning prohibitive favorite status at Bodog at -325, Tarver limps in a loser of three of his past seven fights. And that seems to be the biggest difference which has made the Magic Man a predictable +250 moneyline underdog.

OVER/UNDER betting on how long this fight will last favors the OVER 11.5. The Bodog line is -225, meaning oddsmakers expect the fight will go to a decision after 12. The UNDER 11.5 is underdog money at +175.

But if Tarver has ventured to Australia to fight Green in the same apparent casual way Jones did two years ago, then the UNDER could indeed be the play. Jones seemed intent on cashing a $3 million paycheck rather than polishing his Hall of Fame resume or winning the IBO cruiserweight belt.

The result was predictable. A two-minute thrashing by Green that sent Jones back to another retirement.

Tarver has angered Green by alleging he cheated against Jones. Green countered that Tarver, like other Americans, are like septic tanks because ‘nothing but crap comes from their mouths.’

Tarver beat Jones twice, but has fought just three times in three years, losing twice to Chad Dawson before defeating Nagy Aguilera in an unimpressive fashion last November. The Green Machine, meanwhile, has become a fiercer and better machine with age and many boxing pundits are picking Green to win late or with a decision.

Bet on Green-Tarver now at Bodog!

Boxing Betting Odds: Lucian Bute vs. Brian Magee

Boxing betting fans are in for a treat Saturday, as Lucian Bute will put his IBF super middleweight championship on the line against Brian Magee. The fight takes place at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

Bute, 31 years old, is a heavy favorite at -1200. The Canadian-Romanian has yet to lose a single fight in his career, going 27-0 with 22 wins via knockout. Bute has enjoyed a very impressive run; he’s already defended his title six different times, and all but one of those was achieved with a knockout. His last fight was a ninth-round knockout over American Jesse Brinkley.

Fighting in front of the Montreal crowd should give Bute a huge boost, as it always does. The popular fighter is a natural lefty with a wonderful counter punch. He’s got a great mix of speed and power and should be a real handful for Magee. It’s worth noting, however, that some observers have criticized Bute for taking on fighters that aren’t up to his caliber.

The 35-year-old Magee won’t be hurting for experience when he steps into the ring on Saturday. The former Olympic boxer has 38 professional fights on his resume, with a solid 34-3-1 record and 24 knockouts to go with it. He’s owned the European, IBO and British super middleweight titles. Like Bute, the Northern Ireland native is also a southpaw, and there’s been word that Bute has been training very hard and taking Magee quite seriously.

Magee is riding a 10-fight winning streak. He hasn’t been beaten since a 2006 loss to Carl Froch, when he was knocked out in the 11th round. Since then, Magee has been pretty impressive. Three of his last four fights have ended in knockout victories. Magee was last seen taking on Roman Aramyan; the Armenian was forced to retire after the ninth round, so Magee retained his European championship.
