Urkel Opens Dancing With The Stars With A Bang

The 14th season of Dancing With The Stars began on Monday night on ABC as America, as well as judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli, got their first look at this season’s cast. One of the early favorite for Jaleel White, who is known for his role as nerdy teen Steve Urkel on Family Matters(another ABC program), showed that he had the moves to back up the faith of the oddsmakers.

White earned plaudits from the panel for his performance with partner Kym Johnson (who has won the competition twice) and there is no reason to believe he’ll fall at all from his listing of 9/2 after his first-night showing. White and Johnson tied for the night’s highest marks with classical singer Katherine Jenkins and her partner, Mark Ballas, who has won this competition once.

None of the pairings really did themselves much damage last night and the odds won’t change until the judges and viewers have a chance to see more of the competition. Donald Driver, veteran wide receiver from the Green Bay Packers, has been paired with Peta Murgatroyd, were solid on the evening. Don’t forget about the early favorites, Latino actor William Levy, who burned up the screen with Cheryl Burke and most feel the race for the top spot will come down to Levy and White when it is all said and done.

But there really wasn’t enough to get a good feel for the competition, so check out Dancing With The Stars this week before the real fun starts when the couples’ first-night scores will be paired with the results from next Monday.

The cast of characters is star-studded, but one in particular is getting a lot of attention. Even though she is an early favorite, she is having issues picking up on some of the steps.

Maria Menounos hosts Extra and has recently donned a bikini in Times Square, so she isn’t going to have a problem with the outfits that she’ll have to wear on Dancing With The Stars. But she has admitted to having trouble with the dance steps that she’ll have to perfect if she is going to avoid elimination. She has been paired with Derek Hough, the only person to win three times, and he has also earned three Creative Arts Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Choreography on Dancing With The Stars, so Menounos couldn’t have a better teacher; she has admitted as much herself. Jackson Passes On X Factor Role But Spears On Tap?

The second season of The X Factor won’t air on Fox until September of this year, but of course, the early discussion surrounding the show is, who will take over for last year’s judges?

At the end of January, it was revealed that Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, along with host Steve Jones, would not be returning to the show for the second season, which focuses on the hunt for a singer that will win a $5 million recording deal with Epic Records (Melanie Amero won the first season). Creator and judge Simon Cowell are out to replace the two judges, while L.A. Reid will stick around for another season.

It was revealed that Cowell had been in talks with Whitney Houston to be a judge on The X Factorbefore the singer passed away last month and now fellow icon Janet Jackson has confirmed that she will not be taking the role either, stating a tour and a role in a Tyler Perry movie will keep her too busy.

She just got engaged on December and she seems to be headed back towards the top…or at least, not being a walking tabloid headline.

However, that’s going to be difficult because, well, she is Britney Spears and you know that is why Cowell wants her on the show. He says he wants to hear what she has to say about these artists and while that may be true, Cowell also knows she’ll bring in her audience, which means ratings. The Oscars drop the curtain on award season for the film industry and you can get a good read on who is going to win the Academy over by the events that lead up to the biggest night in the business, which will be held this year at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on February 26th.

Some entertainment experts are touting Chastain as a possible winner as well and if either of these women took home the Oscar, it wouldn’t be a massive upset as both played their roles incredibly well.

But the earlier award shows are usually a good harbinger of what the Academy is thinking, and Octavia Spencer is missing only an Oscar to cap an amazing season for her.

Asshole son trying to evict 98-year-old mom from her house

Mary Kantorowski, 98, is locked in a legal battle with her eldest son, Peter, 71, who wants to sell the house she’s lived in since 1953. “Mary has been living here happily paying all the expenses,” her court-appointed lawyer tells the Connecticut Post, “and now her son, Peter, comes along and is telling her, ‘Get the hell out,’ so he can sell it.”

In 1996, Mary gave a trust administered by Peter control of the house on the condition that she could live in it until she died. But after some legal maneuvering, Peter moved the house to another trust he controls in 2005, making him the owner. And in December Peter gave his mom an eviction notice, and soon after put the house—valued at $333,410—up for sale.

A probate court intervened, ruling that Peter had abused his mother’s power of attorney. Peter insists he’s only evicting Mary because he thinks she’d be better off in a nursing home “with people her own age.” But his younger brother is siding with his mom—and says Peter once told him their mother had lived too long.

Lil Wayne got engaged… to pregnant girlfriend?

’s Valentine’s Day was full of events.

The “Lollipop” singer reportedly proposed to his girlfriend, cocktail waitress Dhea, and he appears to have shared her answer via Twitter.

“She said yes!” the star cryptically tweeted on Wednesday.

Reps for the star are not commenting on the matter, but Media TakeOut  reports that Dhea is also expecting Wayne’s sixth child.

The 28-year-old emcee welcomed two sons in 2009; baby Neal with singer Nivea and Lennox with actress Lauren London. Another lover gave birth to Dwayne Carter III in 2008.

Last year, Wayne was reportedly proven to be the father of a child born after a one-night stand during the height of the “Go DJ” era.
He also has a daughter, Reginae, with his high school sweetheart, BET reality star Toya.

The couple ended their two year marriage in 2006.

Wayne is releasing a memoir in November based around journal entries he wrote while serving time at New York’s Rikers Island prison, he served eight months on gun possession charges in 2010.

Man buys $123 safe on e-Bay, finds $26,000 inside

When James Labrecque listed an old safe—to which he did not have the combination—on , the seller warned, “What you see is what you get, no returns, and no money back.”

A Tennessee man purchased it for $122.93, had a welder cut it open—and found $26,000 inside. The buyer shared the news with Labrecque via a positive review on the auction site, and Labrecque quickly attempted to convince the buyer to give him some of the cash, to no avail. In fact, WMC-TV reports, the buyer quoted Labrecque’s own eBay disclaimer right back to him when turning him down.

“I made a mistake, you know, that’s what it boils down to. And it cost me dearly,” says Labrecque, who adds that he shook the safe and didn’t think there was anything inside. “I feel like the stupidest idiot in the world. … I gave away a safe with $26,000 in it.” He also insists that if he were in the buyer’s place, he would have offered to split the cash 50/50 with the seller. “That’s a chunk of change, you know. That’s life-altering money.”

Obama raised a cool $29.1 million last month

President Obama is off to a good start in the fundraising department: He has raised a healthy $29.1 million for his campaign last month, bringing his total haul for this election to $250 million.

Some 98% of last month’s donations were of $250 or less, the campaign said. Nonpartisan analysts said donations of $200 or less made up 48% of Obama’s 2011 contributions, compared to 9% for Mitt Romney.

The president’s latest fundraising effort, a trip through California and Washington, was expected to bring in more than $8 million. Meanwhile, his approval numbers have been climbing amid glimmers of hope for the economy.

GOP rivals have been bogged down in their own contest, limiting their attacks on Obama, the AP notes. But it adds that he repeatedly tells supporters that the election is “not going to be easy because, first of all, I’m older and I’m grayer”—and it’s been “a tough three years” for Americans.

Woman sues Petco after they cut dog’s ear, try to glue it back on

Two Hawaii animal owners are suing a local location, claiming that groomers at the pet shop mutilated their dogs and, in one case, tried to cover up the hack job using glue, HawaiiNewsNow reports.

Last July, Gladys Kapuwai took her Pomeranian-Maltese mix to the Kaneohe Petco for routine grooming, but when the grandmother retrieved “Dodo,” she noticed that the puppy was missing a piece of her ear.

“[She] was dried, bloody, was dry blood, everything,” Kapuwai told the website. “I noticed that at home, so when I took her to the vet, the doctor had told me it looked like they tried to glue it back.”

In another case, Estelle Green, the wife of attorney Michael Green, who is prosecuting both cases, picked up her dog to find that the pup’s nails were cut too short and bleeding, according to the Star Advertiser.

“The dog was filthy and the tip of the dog’s tail was cut off,” Michael Green added.

“My dog, they offered another free grooming,” Green also told HawaiiNewsNow. “I guess they wanted to take off other body parts.”
